The Body Hub: Why Love is a “Chemical” Reaction
Whether you’re writing a love letter or a business proposal, you’re using the same biological metaphors. Here’s why.
The Language of Feb 14th
“The couple had great chemistry, but the project lacked heart.”
The Decode: Mapping the Organ to the Emotion
In the Body Hub, we treat our internal organs as the “home” of our logic and feelings. We don’t say love is in the “toes” or the “elbows.” We pick the Heart because it is the central pump of life.
This biological mapping creates two major metaphors we use every day:
-
1. “The Heart” = The Essential Center
In romance, your “heart” is your deepest feeling. In business, the “heart of the matter” is the most important part of a problem.
Example: “We need to get to the heart of the budget issue.” -
2. “Chemistry” = Unseen Connection
We view relationships like a laboratory experiment. If the “chemicals” mix well, the relationship works. We use this for sports teams and office departments too!
Example: “The new marketing team has excellent chemistry.”
